How to Check a PTR Record Using HostCry's Free Tool:

Step 1: Open the Explore Menu:

On the HostCry website, click on Explore in the top navigation bar. A dropdown will appear with Free Tools and Security & Network sections.

Step 2: Select "PTR Record Checker":

Under Security & Network, click on PTR record checker, described as Reverse DNS / reverse IP lookup with FCrDNS.

Step 3: Enter the IP Address or Domain:

On the tool page, you'll see an input box. Enter the IP address you want to check (e.g., 8.8.8.8), or sometimes a domain, depending on the tool's setup.

Step 4: Click "Check PTR Record":

Press the check button. The tool will then..

  • Perform a reverse DNS lookup on the IP
  • Return the hostname the IP resolves to
  • Perform a forward lookup on that hostname to see if it matches the original IP (FCrDNS check)

Step 5: Review the PTR Report:

The result page typically shows:

  • IP Address : the one you entered
  • PTR Record (Hostname) : what the IP reverse-resolves to
  • FCrDNS Status :Pass/Fail, showing whether the forward lookup matches the reverse lookup
  • Notes/Warnings : if no PTR record exists, or if there's a mismatch.
