How to Use the Free Website Malware Scanner at Hostcry

Step 1: Open the Explore Menu:

First, visit the Hostcry homepage. In the top navigation header, hover your mouse over the Explore menu. A dropdown popup window will appear. Under the Security & Network section, you will see the Malware Scanner option

Step 2: Open the Malware Scanner Tool:

Click on Malware Scanner from the dropdown menu. You will be taken directly to the tool page where you will see the heading:

Step 3: Choose Your Scan Type:

Before entering your URL, select the type of scan you want to run. The tool offers three scan options:

  • Comprehensive Scan : Full security analysis of your entire website (recommended)
  • Quick Scan :Basic malware check for a fast result
  • Blacklist Only: Checks if your domain is listed in reputation databases

Select the scan type that best fits your needs.

Step 4: Enter Your Website URL:

Once you have selected your scan type, enter your full website URL in the input field. Make sure to include https:// at the beginning. For example:

  • https://google.com
  • https://yourwebsite.com
  • https://example.com

After entering your URL, click the Scan Now button.

Step 5: Review Your Security Report:

After the scan is complete, a full Security Overview report will appear on the same page. The report will show:

  • Overall Status — General security health of your website (e.g., Minor Issues, Critical, Clean)
  • Risk Level : Displayed as Low Risk, Medium Risk, or High Risk
  • Threats :Number of active malware threats detected
  • Suspicious : Number of suspicious files or links found
  • Issues :Number of security issues that need attention
  • Checks : Total number of security checks performed

Step 6: Review Your Full Security Report:

Section 1: Malware Detection:

  • Files Scanned – Total number of files that were checked
  • Threats Found – Number of malware threats detected (0 = safe)
  • Suspicious – Number of files flagged as suspicious
  • Clean Files – Number of files that are completely clean
  • Risk Level – Overall risk status, such as:
  • CLEAN / Risk Level: LOW – Website is safe
  • Risk Level: MEDIUM – Some issues exist
  • Risk Level: HIGH – Immediate action required

Section 2: Blacklist Status:

This section checks whether your website has been blacklisted in any security database:

  • Checked – Number of security databases queried (e.g., 8 databases)
  • Clean – Number of databases that declared your website safe
  • Flagged – Number of databases that flagged your website

Databases that are checked include:

  • Google Safe Browsing – Google's malware and phishing protection
  • PhishTank – Community-driven anti-phishing database
  • VirusTotal – Scanned against 97 security engines
  • Kaspersky – Kaspersky's security database

Section 3: Software Analysis:

This section analyzes the technology your website is built on:

  • If the website is up to date, a green badge will be displayed
  • If any outdated software is detected, a warning will appear
  • Possible results that may appear:
  • Website uses static HTML
  • Custom framework or proprietary technology
  • Technology detection limited by security measures

You can also click the Clear Cache & Rescan button to run a fresh scan.

Section 4: Security Assessment:

This section evaluates the overall security posture of your website:

  • Security Score – A score between 0 and 100 (e.g., 90 = good)
  • Overall Status – Rated as Fair, Good, or Poor
  • Checks Performed – Total number of security checks carried out
  • Issues Found – Number of issues identified

The following specific items are checked:

  • SSL Certificate – Verifies whether your SSL certificate is valid. If an ERROR appears, review your SSL configuration.
  • Security Headers – Checks the security headers on your website. If an ERROR appears, verify that the website is accessible.
  • Mixed Content – Checks whether the website contains any mixed HTTP/HTTPS content.

Step 7: Fix the Issues Found:

After reviewing your report, take action on the issues highlighted by the tool. If your website has threats or vulnerabilities, you should:

  • Contact your hosting provider immediately
  • Update any outdated software or plugins
  • Remove any suspicious files from your website
