How to Change PHP Version on cPanel

Different websites and applications may require different versions of PHP to function correctly. cPanel makes it easy to switch your PHP version at any time without affecting your website files. Follow the steps below to change your PHP version on cPanel.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel:

Log in to your Hostcry Client Area and navigate to your hosting account. Click on cPanel to open it. You can also access cPanel directly by going to yourdomain.com/cpanel and entering your cPanel username and password.

Step 2: Scroll Down to the Software Section:

Once you are inside cPanel, scroll down the page until you find the Software section. This section contains all the tools related to your server's software configuration, including PHP settings.

ℹ️ Tip: You can also use the Search box at the top of cPanel and type "PHP" to quickly find the PHP Version option.

Step 3: Click on Select PHP Version:

Inside the Software section, click on Select PHP Version. This will open the PHP version management page where you can view and change the PHP version currently active on your hosting account.

Step 4: Change Your PHP Version:

You will now see the Account PHP Settings page. This page shows your current PHP version and allows you to make changes. You have two options:

Option 1 — Select a Different PHP Version:

You will see a dropdown list showing all available PHP versions. Simply click on the dropdown and select the PHP version you need (for example, PHP 8.1, PHP 8.2, or PHP 7.4). After selecting the version, click the Apply button to save your changes.

Option 2 — Reset PHP Extensions to Default:

If you want to restore all PHP extensions back to their original default settings, click the Reset to Default button. This is useful if you have made custom changes to PHP extensions and want to start fresh without manually unchecking each one.

⚠️ Important: Changing your PHP version may affect how your website or application behaves. Always check that your WordPress theme, plugins, or scripts are compatible with the new PHP version before switching.
